Social Media Coordinator job description template

A social media coordinator plans, creates and publishes content on your business's social accounts, then answers comments and messages and tracks what's working. Many small businesses start with part-time help. The best posts name the platforms you care about, such as Instagram, Facebook or TikTok, and say whether the coordinator will shoot photos and video on-site.

Social Media Coordinator

Part-time
Your Company is looking for a creative, reliable social media coordinator to tell our story online. You'll plan and post photos, videos and stories, reply to comments and messages, and help us build a following of real customers. You'll have creative freedom within our brand and regular check-ins with our owner. If you love making content and understand what gets people to stop scrolling, we'd like to see your work.

What you’ll do

  • Plan a weekly content calendar for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and other platforms we use
  • Shoot and edit photos and short-form video on-site using a phone and apps like CapCut
  • Write captions that match our voice and include a clear call to action
  • Schedule posts with Meta Business Suite or a tool like Later or Buffer
  • Reply to comments, messages and mentions promptly and pass customer issues to the right person
  • Track reach, engagement and follower growth and share a simple monthly report
  • Suggest timely content ideas based on platform trends that fit our brand
  • Coordinate collaborations and reposts with local creators, partners and customers

What we’re looking for

  • Experience running social media accounts for a business, organization or your own brand
  • Strong photo and short-form video skills using a smartphone
  • Clear, lively caption writing and a feel for different brand voices
  • Working knowledge of Instagram, Facebook and TikTok features
  • Reliable about posting on schedule and answering messages quickly

Nice to have

  • Experience making social graphics in Canva
  • Experience running boosted posts or Meta ads
  • Familiarity with Pinterest, LinkedIn or YouTube Shorts

Schedule

Part-time with flexible hours, including some on-site time to capture content and occasional evening or weekend events. Much of the planning and posting can be done remotely.

What we offer

  • Flexible, partly remote schedule
  • Creative freedom to try new content ideas
  • Permission to feature the work you create for us in your portfolio

Add your pay, location and schedule when you post. Jobs that show pay get noticeably more applicants.

  4. How do you decide what to post each week?
  5. Which numbers would you look at to judge whether our social media is working?

Tips for hiring a social media coordinator

  • Look through each finalist's own feeds and past client accounts before the interview. Their posts are their résumé.
  • Pay for a short trial: ask finalists to plan a week of posts and create two of them.
  • Decide who approves posts before they go live, especially at first, and explain that process in the interview.
  • Grant access through Meta Business Suite roles instead of sharing passwords, so you can remove it anytime.
