Behavior Technician job description template
Behavior technicians deliver one-on-one applied behavior analysis (ABA) sessions to children and adults, following treatment plans written by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and recording data every session. Most employers require the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential or help new hires earn it. A good post explains where sessions happen, such as homes, schools or a clinic, and how hours are scheduled.

Behavior Technician interview questions
- What do you know about ABA, and what draws you to this work?
- A client starts throwing materials during a session. Walk me through how you'd respond.
- Why does it matter to follow the behavior plan exactly, even if you think another approach might work?
- How do you keep accurate data while keeping a session fun and engaging?
- A parent asks you to change something in their child's program. What do you say?
- Tell me about a time you got critical feedback. How did you use it?
- How would you handle a long day of back-to-back sessions in different locations?
Tips for hiring a behavior technician
- Look up each RBT in the BACB's online registry before you make an offer to confirm the credential is active.
- Plan supervision before you hire. RBTs must be supervised by a qualified BCBA or BCaBA, so make sure your supervisors have room on their caseloads.
- Psychology and education students make strong candidates, and many want afternoon hours. Share the post with nearby colleges and university career centers.
- Say in the post how many hours you can offer each week and whether drive time is paid. Session cancellations happen in ABA, and technicians want to know how you handle them.
