Medical Assistant job description template
Medical assistants keep a small practice running on time: they room patients, take vitals, update charts and help providers with exams and procedures. The best medical assistant posts spell out how much of the job is clinical versus front desk, which certification you expect and which EHR you use.

Tips for hiring a medical assistant
- Check what your state lets medical assistants do, such as giving injections or entering orders, and write the duties to match. The rules differ by state and sometimes depend on certification.
- Verify certifications before you make an offer. The AAMA, AMT and NHA each offer online lookups for CMA, RMA and CCMA credentials.
- Contact local medical assistant programs. Many need externship sites, and a strong extern can become your next hire.
- Have finalists shadow for a paid half day so you can see how they work with patients and your providers.
