Licensed Practical Nurse job description template
Licensed practical nurses, called licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) in California and Texas, give medications, take vitals, provide basic nursing care and report changes to an RN or provider. Their scope of practice varies by state, so a good post lists the duties you actually need, such as injections or wound care, and who the LPN reports to.

Tips for hiring a licensed practical nurse
- Read your state board of nursing's LPN scope of practice before writing the post. Tasks involving IVs, patient assessment and supervising others are handled differently from state to state.
- Verify the license on your state board of nursing website or through Nursys before making an offer.
- Make sure an RN, physician or other provider is available to supervise as your state requires, and name who the LPN reports to in the post.
- Practical nursing programs at community colleges and technical schools are a strong source of candidates, so ask to post on their job boards.
