Physical Therapy Aide job description template
Physical therapy aides keep an outpatient clinic running smoothly: they clean and set up equipment, prepare treatment areas, help patients get to and from tables and pitch in at the front desk. Aides aren't licensed to provide therapy, so a good post focuses on support duties and makes clear they work under the direction of physical therapists and PT assistants.
Physical Therapy Aide
Part-timeYour Company is hiring a physical therapy aide to support our therapists and patients. You'll keep the gym and treatment rooms clean and ready, set up equipment, help patients move safely between areas and lend a hand at the front desk. - Set up hot packs, cold packs and exercise equipment as directed by the therapist
- Help patients move safely between areas, including those using walkers or wheelchairs
- Prepare treatment rooms and restock towels, exercise bands and supplies

- Answer phones, check patients in and book appointments when the front desk is busy
- Wash and fold linens and keep the gym tidy throughout the day
- Report broken equipment and let the office manager know when supplies run low
What we’re looking for
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Friendly and encouraging with patients who may be in pain or recovering from surgery
- Able to be on your feet most of the shift and assist patients with walking and transfers
- Comfortable following cleaning checklists and keeping patient information private
- CPR certification, or willing to earn it in your first month
Nice to have
- Coursework in kinesiology, exercise science or a related field
- Previous experience in a PT clinic, gym or other healthcare setting
- Familiarity with clinic software such as WebPT
Schedule
Part-time, including early morning and late afternoon shifts when the clinic is busiest. Some Saturday hours may be available.
What we offer
- Paid on-the-job training
- Clinic experience that's valuable if you're considering PT or PTA school
- Flexible hours that work around classes or other commitments
- CPR certification at no cost to you

Tips for hiring a physical therapy aide
- Check your state's PT practice act and insurer rules before assigning duties. Aides generally can't provide skilled therapy, and what they may help with varies.
- Pre-PT and kinesiology programs at nearby colleges are a good source of motivated aides, so post on their job boards.
- Some aides move on to PT or PTA programs, so ask about their plans and keep a short list of backup candidates.
- Run a short paid trial shift so candidates see the pace of your clinic and you see how they treat patients.
