Mover

Full-time
Your Company is hiring movers to help our customers get from one home or office to the next without a scratch. You'll wrap and protect furniture, carry boxes and heavy items, load the truck tightly and set everything up at the new place. It's physical work with a crew that looks out for each other. If you're careful, dependable and friendly with customers, we'll train you on the rest.

What you’ll do

  • Wrap furniture in moving pads and shrink-wrap, and protect floors, doorways and railings before carrying
  • Carry furniture, appliances and boxes up and down stairs using dollies, straps and safe lifting technique
  • Load the truck tight and balanced, strapping off each tier so nothing shifts in transit
  • Take apart and reassemble beds, tables and other furniture, keeping hardware bagged and labeled
  • Pack dishes, glassware, artwork and electronics with the right boxes, paper and padding
  • Place furniture and boxes in the right rooms at the new location, following the customer's directions
  • Walk through the home with the crew lead before and after the move to check for damage or missed items
  • Stock the truck with supplies before each job and keep pads, dollies and straps clean and organized

What we’re looking for

  • Able to repeatedly lift 50 lbs or more, and carry heavy furniture with a partner, including on stairs
  • Able to work long days on your feet, in and out of the truck, in all kinds of weather
  • On time for early starts and willing to stay until the job is finished
  • Careful, respectful handling of customers' homes and belongings
  • Willing to complete a background check, since you'll work inside customers' homes

Nice to have

  • Previous moving, furniture delivery or warehouse experience
  • A valid driver's license and experience driving a box truck
  • Experience moving pianos, safes or large appliances

Schedule

Full-time, with early starts and days that end when the job is done. Weekends and the end of each month are busiest, especially in summer, so expect some Saturdays.

What we offer

  • Customer tips, shared by the crew
  • Paid overtime on long days
  • Paid training in packing, padding and safe lifting
  • Company shirts and work gloves provided
  • A path to crew lead or driver for movers who are ready for more

Add your pay, location and schedule when you post. Jobs that show pay get noticeably more applicants.

Mover interview questions

  1. How would you get a heavy dresser down a narrow staircase without damaging the walls?
  2. You notice you've scratched a customer's floor. What do you do?
  3. How do you load a truck so nothing shifts or breaks on the way?
  4. How would you pack a kitchen full of dishes and glasses?
  5. Tell me about a long, physically demanding day at work. How did you keep going?
  6. A customer keeps changing their mind about where the furniture goes. How do you handle it?
  7. How do you and a partner coordinate when carrying something heavy and awkward?

Tips for hiring a mover

  • Hold a short paid working interview in your warehouse or on a real job. Padding, carrying and loading a few pieces shows effort and care quickly.
  • Spell out the lifting, stairs, weather and long days in the post. Movers who know what they're signing up for are less likely to quit in the first week.
  • Because movers work inside customers' homes, run a background check with written consent and ask references about reliability and honesty.
  • Hire a few weeks before your busy season so new movers can learn on smaller jobs before the summer rush.
