Retail Sales Associate job description template
Retail sales associates help shoppers find what they need, keep the sales floor looking good and ring up purchases. In a small shop, they often know the products better than anyone and drive a lot of repeat business. Good posts describe what you sell, how much product knowledge you expect and whether there’s any commission.

Tips for hiring a retail sales associate
- Have finalists walk the floor and pitch one product. You’ll learn quickly whether they’re curious, warm and good at asking questions.
- If you pay commission or bonuses, explain exactly how they work in the post. Vague promises put off strong candidates.
- Look at your best customers. People who already love your products often make convincing, knowledgeable associates.
- Ask references whether the candidate showed up for weekend and holiday shifts, since those are the hardest to cover.
