Shipping and Receiving Clerk job description template
Shipping and receiving clerks check in incoming deliveries, prepare outgoing shipments and keep the paperwork and inventory records accurate. At a small business they often pack, load and book carriers too. A good post names the carriers and shipping software you use, and how much lifting and forklift work is involved.

Tips for hiring a shipping and receiving clerk
- Give finalists a short receiving test: a packing slip, a box with a few deliberate mismatches and five minutes. Careful candidates find every one.
- Look at people with retail stockroom, warehouse or inventory experience. Your systems can be taught; carefulness is harder to teach.
- OSHA requires forklift operators to be trained and evaluated by the employer, so plan for that before a new clerk drives one.
- Name your carriers and software in the post so experienced clerks can tell how quickly they'd get up to speed.
