Handyman

Full-time
Your Company is hiring a handyman to take care of home repairs and small projects for our customers. Each day brings a different list: fixing doors, patching walls, mounting TVs, replacing fixtures and tackling the jobs homeowners have been putting off. You'll work mostly on your own, so we need someone dependable, friendly with customers and good at figuring things out. If you're the person friends call when something breaks, we'd like to meet you.

What you’ll do

  • Patch and texture drywall, and touch up paint after repairs
  • Repair and adjust doors, locks, hinges, cabinets and drawers
  • Mount TVs, shelves, mirrors, curtain rods and artwork securely
  • Swap like-for-like faucets, light fixtures and toilet parts within our state's licensing rules
  • Assemble furniture, hang towel bars and recaulk tubs, showers and sinks
  • Fix window screens, fence boards, deck boards and loose railings
  • Give customers clear time and materials estimates, and keep them updated if plans change
  • Pick up materials, log hours and parts, and close out jobs in our scheduling app

What we’re looking for

  • Experience with home repair or property maintenance work
  • Your own set of basic hand and power tools
  • Valid driver's license and an insured vehicle or the ability to drive ours
  • Comfortable working alone in customers' homes and representing our business well
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work on step and extension ladders

Nice to have

  • Background in a trade such as carpentry, painting or tile
  • Apartment turnover or property maintenance experience
  • Comfortable using a scheduling or invoicing app on your phone

Schedule

Full-time, weekday daytime hours with occasional Saturday appointments. Most days include several customer visits.

What we offer

  • Company vehicle or mileage reimbursement
  • Tool and equipment allowance
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Mostly weekday hours with evenings free

Add your pay, location and schedule when you post. Jobs that show pay get noticeably more applicants.

  4. How do you estimate how long a repair will take?

Tips for hiring a handyman

  • Check your state's rules for handyman work before you post. Some states limit the size of jobs done without a contractor license or require licenses for electrical and plumbing work.
  • Send finalists on a paid trial job with a short list of real repairs, and see how they work and how they leave the space.
  • Because they'll be alone in customers' homes, call references and ask specifically about honesty and how they treated customers.
  • Property maintenance techs and tradespeople looking for more variety often make strong candidates, so post where they look, including local trade groups.
