Solar Installer job description template
Solar installers mount racking, panels and inverters on rooftops and ground mounts, then help wire and commission each system so it passes inspection. Who may make electrical connections depends on your state and local rules, so a good solar installer post separates roof and racking work from electrical tasks, names the fall protection you provide and says whether you install batteries too.
Solar Installer
Full-timeYour Company is hiring a solar installer to join our residential install crew. You'll set up fall protection, flash roof attachments, mount racking and panels, run conduit and help our licensed electricians finish each system. We care about watertight roofs, neat wiring and leaving every home as clean as we found it. What you’ll do

- Locate rafters and install flashed roof attachments, sealing every penetration so the roof stays watertight
- Mount rails and racking square and level according to the plan set and manufacturer instructions
- Set solar panels, attach microinverters or optimizers and keep wiring tidy and secured under the array
- Run conduit and pull wire to the inverter, battery and main panel under the direction of our electrician
- Install inverters, batteries, disconnects and monitoring equipment where the plans call for them
- Build ground-mount arrays, including posts, racking and trenching when a project calls for it
- Photograph completed work, clean the site and help correct anything flagged at inspection
What we’re looking for
- Steady footing on steep and two-story roofs, and committed to staying tied off the entire time
- Able to carry panels up to 50 lbs across roofs and work outdoors in heat and cold
- Experience with power tools such as impact drivers, drills and saws
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to the shop for early starts
- Willing to follow electrical safety rules and leave connections to licensed electricians as our state requires
Nice to have
- NABCEP PV Associate or PV Installation Professional certification
- Completed OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction training
- Roofing, electrical apprenticeship or other construction experience
- Experience with Enphase, SolarEdge or Tesla equipment

What we offer
- Paid NABCEP training and exam fees
- Company tools and all safety equipment provided
- Crew bonuses for clean, on-time installs that pass inspection the first time
- Health and dental coverage plus paid holidays
- A path to crew lead, site supervisor or electrical apprentice

Tips for hiring a solar installer
- Check your state's licensing rules before you post. Many states require electrical work on solar systems to be done by or under a licensed electrician, and some have a separate solar contractor license.
- Hire for safety habits and reliability first. You can teach racking, but someone who skips tying off puts your crew and your business at risk.
- Roofers and electrical apprentices often make strong solar installers, so post where they look and ask your crew for referrals.
- Bring new installers on a few weeks before your booked jobs ramp up, so they can learn on simpler installs first.
