What you’ll do
- Work with small groups and individual students to reinforce lessons the teacher has introduced
- Prepare materials, make copies and set up stations before lessons begin
- Supervise students during lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal and field trips
- Support students who need extra help in following their individual learning plans
- Grade assignments using the teacher's answer keys and record scores accurately
- Reinforce classroom rules and routines calmly and consistently
- Keep the class on task during short periods when the lead teacher steps out
- Share observations about student progress and behavior with the lead teacher
What we’re looking for
- Experience working with children in a school, camp, tutoring or childcare setting
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus any paraprofessional qualifications our state or school requires
- Cleared to work in a school after the background screening our state requires
- Patient, positive approach with students who learn at different paces
- Comfortable taking direction from a lead teacher and following their plans
- Able to stand, walk and supervise students outdoors during recess in most weather
Nice to have
- Associate degree or college coursework in education or child development
- Experience supporting students with learning differences or behavior plans
- Interest in becoming a lead teacher in the future
Schedule
Full-time during the school year, Monday through Friday, following our school calendar. Summers and school breaks are typically off unless you join our summer program.
