Fitness Instructor

Part-time
Your Company is looking for a fitness instructor to lead group classes our members look forward to. You'll plan and teach safe, energetic workouts, offer modifications so everyone can take part, and help new members feel welcome. You'll also help grow your classes by connecting with members and sharing your schedule. If you're certified, love coaching groups and can make a class feel both fun and challenging, we'd like to meet you.

What you’ll do

  • Plan and teach group classes with a clear warm-up, main workout and cool-down
  • Cue movements clearly and give options for beginners, injuries and advanced members
  • Set up and put away equipment, music and the sound system before and after class
  • Welcome newcomers before class, ask about injuries and help them get set up
  • Watch form across the room and correct it safely without singling anyone out
  • Start and end classes on time and keep attendance within the room's capacity
  • Share your schedule with members and help promote classes on social media
  • Respond to emergencies using your CPR/AED training and our emergency plan

What we’re looking for

  • A current group fitness certification such as ACE, AFAA or ACSM, or a format-specific certification
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Teaching experience, or an audition that shows you're ready
  • An energetic, encouraging presence in front of a group
  • Reliable and on time, and able to find a sub when you can't teach

Nice to have

  • Certifications in formats such as indoor cycling, yoga, Pilates or Zumba
  • Experience teaching beginners or older adults
  • Personal trainer certification
  • A following of members who already enjoy your classes

Schedule

Part-time, teaching early-morning, lunchtime, evening and weekend classes. Your schedule depends on the classes you take on, and more slots open as your classes grow.

What we offer

  • Free membership and classes on your own time
  • Help paying for continuing education credits
  • Input on new class formats and the schedule
  • Discounts on retail and personal training

Add your pay, location and schedule when you post. Jobs that show pay get noticeably more applicants.

Tips for hiring a fitness instructor

  • Hold a live audition where each candidate teaches a short segment to staff or a few members. Cueing, energy and safety are obvious within minutes.
  • Keep a list of every instructor's certification and CPR/AED renewal dates so no one teaches on a lapsed card.
  • Recruit from your own class regulars. Some are already certified or eager to train, and they know your members.
  • Explain your sub policy and how class pay works in the post. Many instructors teach at several studios and compare.
