Housekeeper job description template
Housekeepers clean and reset guest rooms, bathrooms and common areas, and at a small hotel, inn or vacation rental their work shows up in nearly every guest review. A strong housekeeper post says how many rooms a typical shift covers, your checkout and check-in times, and whether you provide uniforms and supplies.
Housekeeper
Full-timeYour Company is hiring a dependable housekeeper to make sure every guest walks into a room that feels fresh, quiet and cared for. You'll clean and reset guest rooms, keep hallways and common areas tidy, and let us know when something needs fixing. If you take pride in doing a job thoroughly and like seeing a room come together, we'd like to meet you. Hotel experience helps, but we'll train you on our standards.
What you’ll do
- Clean and reset guest rooms after checkout, including bathrooms, floors, dusting and trash
- Make beds with fresh linens and set out towels, amenities and supplies to our standard
- Tidy stayover rooms quickly and quietly, and respect do-not-disturb requests
- Keep hallways, stairwells, the lobby and laundry areas clean throughout the day
- Wash and fold linens and towels, and keep the linen closet stocked
- Report maintenance problems, damage or missing items to the manager right away
- Turn in lost-and-found items and follow our key and guest privacy procedures
- Restock your cart at the start of each shift so you never run short mid-shift
What we’re looking for
- A careful eye for detail: you notice the hair in the tub and the smudge on the mirror
- Able to work steadily and finish assigned rooms before check-in time
- Able to push a loaded cart, make beds, bend, kneel and lift up to 25 lbs throughout a shift
- Reliable attendance, including weekends and holidays when we're busiest
- Trustworthy and respectful of guests' rooms and belongings
Nice to have
- Previous housekeeping experience at a hotel, inn, cleaning service or vacation rental
- Experience running commercial washers and dryers
- Comfortable marking rooms clean in a housekeeping app or on a printed checklist
Schedule
Full-time day shifts, usually starting mid-morning once guests check out, with weekend and holiday shifts required. Hours can change with the seasons and how full we are.
What we offer
- Paid training on our cleaning standards and procedures
- Uniforms and all cleaning supplies provided
- Daytime hours with no late-night shifts
- Tips left by guests in their rooms are yours to keep
- Paid time off after your introductory period
Add your pay, location and schedule when you post. Jobs that show pay get noticeably more applicants.

Tips for hiring a housekeeper
- Do a paid trial shift where the candidate cleans one or two rooms alongside your best housekeeper. Speed and attention to detail show up right away.
- Call a reference from a past cleaning job. You're trusting this person alone in guests' rooms with their belongings.
- Put your typical room count per shift in the post. Experienced housekeepers use it to judge whether the workload is realistic.
- Ask your current housekeepers for referrals and post in local community groups; good housekeepers usually know other good housekeepers.
